Periodontics
Gum Disease Care:
Periodontics is a field of dentistry dedicated to the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of gum diseases such as gingivitis and periodontitis. At Serenity Family Dentistry, our team provides periodontal treatment. We focus on early detection and treatment of gum disease to prevent its progression and address more severe health issues.
Dental Checkups
Addressing Gum Health Needs:
Our approach to periodontal care is tailored to each patient’s needs. We assess your dental health during your dental checkups and look for signs of gingivitis (early-stage gum disease) and periodontitis (bone disease). These conditions are typically caused by the buildup of plaque and calculus and can be influenced by factors such as at-home care, heredity, smoking, diabetes, hormone changes, and dry mouth. Symptoms such as swollen or bleeding gums, pain while chewing, persistent bad breath, tooth sensitivity, and tooth mobility are indicators that you should seek a periodontal evaluation.
Easy Check-ins
We aim to make your visit as comfortable as possible, starting with an easy check-in process. You can complete your patient forms ahead of your visit.
Periodontal Treatment
Our periodontal treatment methods include:
- Scaling: Removing plaque and calculus from tooth surfaces above and beneath the gums.
- Root Planing: Smoothing the roots to promote gum healing and reattachment to the tooth.
- Debridement Therapy: Cleaning infected periodontal pockets to reduce inflammation.
- Tooth Extraction: Removing severely damaged and/or mobile teeth when necessary.

What Can I Expect During My Office Visit?
Your dentist will evaluate your teeth and determine if they are healthy enough to have veneer work. She will make sure the teeth are strong enough and have a stable bite. She will also examine your teeth for cracks and misalignment.
Then you and she will work together to design your smile. Be clear in what you are looking to accomplish and how you want your smile to look.
For a porcelain veneer, expect to have a mold impression done to be used in forming your dental veneers. Since porcelain veneers are created in labs, you will need to schedule a follow-up visit to fit the veneers.
Maintain your veneers with proper dental hygiene and regular office visits. Avoid eating hard candy, ice or sticky foods.
