Serenity Family Dentistry – Fillings
We brush twice a day. We floss (or we tell our dentists that we do.) Even with daily care, our teeth can be susceptible to cavities. Teeth can crack and fracture.
When repairing teeth, we also want to maintain a natural looking smile with fillings that won’t be obvious.
Here at Serenity Family Dentistry in Charlotte, we’re ready to welcome you to our office and talk to you about whether you need fillings.
Metal-Free and Tooth-Colored Fillings
Traditionally, fillings have been made with a very durable silver composite. This amalgam and can take a lot of pressure. Typically you’ll find the silver fillings in the back of the mouth on the wider stronger molars.
Today, many of the filling composites are made of ceramic and plastic compounds and give a more natural blend and appearance in your smile. Metal-free fillings have come a long way in providing dental stability in repairing damaged teeth. Tooth-colored fillings are also a version of the new composite fillings and can be matched and to blend with your existing smile. This composite is applied in layers and then cured with light.
What Type of Fillings Do I Need?
Depending on endurance, strength, and performance, our team at Serenity Family Dentistry may recommend a few options for your fillings. Your options may depend on:
- Composites used
- Where the filling will be set
- How much tooth damage has occurred
- Chewing needs for the damaged tooth
- Restoration time including recurring office visits
