Serenity Family Dentistry – Dentures
Denture dentistry has been around a long time. And our nation’s first president was rumored to have worn wooden dentures. Denture technology has increasingly advanced and now offers comfortable, natural-looking dental replacements. Today’s dentures are often created using an acrylic resin for the gum fit and either hardened plastic or porcelain for the teeth.
At Serenity Family Dentistry in Charlotte, we want to see your smile. Our dentures are designed for a custom fit that will provide comfort and long life durability.
Types of Dentures
There are two types of dentures – partial and full. A partial denture fills a gap of missing permanent teeth. Unlike a partial bridge, a denture is removable and not bonded to surrounding teeth. A full denture is a solution for a patient who has lost all of their teeth or had them removed. The natural-looking dentures are fitted to the gum line. In time, your denture fit may seem loose at the gum line. Our team at Serenity Family Dentistry will continue to evaluate how your dentures are fitting in your regular office visits. We are trained in the latest in denture stabilization.
Are Dentures Right For Me?

Caring For Your Dentures
Just like your natural teeth, you need to care for your dentures. They can stain, retain bacteria or dry out. When caring for your dentures, be careful not to let them fall onto a hard surface like a sink or countertop.
- Avoid hard to chew or really sticky foods like gum and caramel. Brush your dentures daily and rinse between meals.
- Ask your dentist for a recommendation on a gentle toothpaste to use. Many common toothpastes may be too stringent on your dentures.
- Keep your dentures in water or cleaning solution when not in use to prevent drying and cracking.
- Our dentist is available to go over care instructions with you.
